Hey everyone!
3d2a is what got me into 3d printing, I’ve only had my printer about a month now and have been working through the steps to dial it in.
I’ve been having issues with supports breaking from my nozzle dragging across surfaces during travel. I’ve tried a few things but still can’t get the hand guard B revision for the orca to print without breaking.
I replaced the nozzle with factory replacement
I’ve used extrusion calibration blocks and I have reduced to 95.8% for this silver poly maker pla pro.
Checked the e steps
Switching to glass bed has helped with adhesion but I still get dragging
Im using prusa slicer
Has anyone had this issue or found a solution for it?
Nozzle drag breaking supports
So I'm not sure if prusaslicer has a setting like "z hop when retracted" it may be named something different, but I know on the cura slicer there is a setting like that and it essentially brings the extruder up before moving so that they don't clip into things when moving.
PistollPeet As Axlaser has pointed out, you can increase the Z lift on travel moves to help eliminate this issue. It should be set to 0.2 mm by default, but it probably depends on the printer. Some printers can have issues when this is too high.
I would increase to at least 0.2 mm and try again, going higher if needed. The setting in Prusa is under Printer Settings > Extruder > Retraction > Lift Z. Also make sure the "Only Lift Z" range is reasonable so that the Z lift is actually used. This range is designed to prevent Z lift at the top of the Z range from pushing past the end stops. Should be 0 to some number close to the Z height of your printer.
Awesome thank you for the tips! I’ve been running thru a bunch of filament trying different settings. Funny enough I swapped back to the glass bed for another run late last night and I’ve made it to 40% complete with no issues.

update-
It only ended up a larger shelf trophy.
I may have a different version of prusa slicer (Version: 2.8.0+win64) as my path names are slightly different
Printers->extruder 1-> travel lift
upon mouse over i see the parameter name is retract_lift(0)
by default this is 0 so I'll adjust up .2 mm or so for start.
In addition I've adjusted support first layer density from 90 to 100 as I've noticed inconsistencies there after fixing extrusion multiplier
one more shot with prusa and I'm going to try cura just for fun. Thanks for the support, I'll let you all know how it goes tomorrow
PistollPeet I was using an older version for reference. I'll get you the name for the latest version.
V2.8.0 has moved the lift setting to it's own area under Extruder > Travel Lift > Lift Height. So you found the correct setting!
My issue seems mostly resolved and the print is going well so far. The rail sections are printed first onto supports and joins the main body as the layers develop. The edges of these sections are what have been breaking and now they are forming perfect with the exception of one which has shifted a few mm. I will get pics later for reference.
