I have gotten some of the least helpful replies from the Firearms Bureau regarding the process of properly serializing an AR-15. Anyone have some experience with this? I was not able to find a way to request a SN for a gun that has not yet been produced. If I need to produce it first and I end up not getting a SN what do I do with it?

I think you're in a difficult situation in California. I think they intentionally made it virtually impossible to meet their requirements. First they wanted a steel weight in it, now as far as I understand just the mere use of a 3D printer to make a firearm is not allowed. Possessing 80% lowers is also problematic, unless you had it before 2022. So that leaves you with milling you own blank.
Good luck they don't make it easy.

undeadchew thank you for the info I appreciate it. Enforcement of firearm manufacturing laws also seems very volatile. There's a point in my research where the laws just said "whatever the DA deems acceptable" which is completely unhelpful since they don't say anything most of the time. I will keep working on this and if I make a major breakthrough or find a process I will post it here.
