I’m having issues with my barrel mount I go in the orca kit. Put about 200 rounds through the Orca and the mount is now loose to the upper and hand guard. The barrel its self is still secure within the mount.
When I first installed the barrel and mount, I had to hammer is in hard. It did not go in easy at all. It was very very tight fit into the upper. So I’m guessing it just got too hot, those 200 rounds I shot through fast in like 20min so it got hella hot. Was kinda giving it a good stress test.
I was going to print my self in PPA-CF but thought I’d send them off to be printed in Ultem 1010 by my old employer. But a little concerned with impact strength. Also considered Ultem 9085 but at that point I might as well print it PPA-CF my self.
I now work at a company that does DMLS, we print suppressors for a well known suppressor conglomerate. I was thinking on having them printed in aluminum. But was wondering is there any concern with the barrel mount being metal? I’m concerned with it melting the upper a little due to the aluminum barrel mount just absorbing all the heat from the barrel. The Orca its self is printed PPA-CF with the upper and lower being the 25% CF core version. So they got decent heat retention.
Was wondering y’all’s thoughts. Either way I’m going to need to print them in a higher temp material. It appears the ones with my kit were PET-CF.
