SS help….

So I put my metal SS in my LWRC DI gun it it ran great at first. Literally zero issues worked 100% every time.

It didn’t like steel case in SS mode but hey whatever.

Then my dumbass decided “Hey I haven’t cleaned my gun in a while, maybe if I clean it, maybe it’ll run steel in SS” so I cleaned it and now I might get a few rounds off in SS mode but then I get a hammer follow. I tried one of the centering blocks to see if that would help. It did not.

I tried looking through the forums but all I saw was my trigger might be over cut. Really hoping that’s not the case because I don’t want to buy a new trigger 😂.

Edit: I should add, it functions perfectly fine in all other positions. The lever does feel kind of loose in the cam but it felt that way when I installed it and it ran fine then. Only after about 200ish rounds did I start having issues. It did do 1 40rnd mag dump flawlessly after the cleaning. After that it’s been a few rounds of SS mode before I get a dead trigger due to hammer follow.

Critter1371 Could be bolt bounce, cleaning can cause that if it reduces friction and hence increases bolt velocity. But getting forty rounds AFTER cleaning point to the issue being wear. Check the cam for wear first.

Critter1371 When function testing without the upper receiver and moving the lever back to the rear slowly, with pressure on the trigger at what angle does the lever push your finger forward?

This is the angle that the trigger is forced forward under the circumstances you specified.

Critter1371 Looks good to me, does your buffer have sliding weights, and could you measure/report back how much the buffer weighs?

undeadchew it’s a H2 buffer with sliding weights. Put it on a food scale and weighs 116 grams.

Ok I think I figured it out.

I think it was the cleaning. Maybe I just got lucky with first 40 rnd dump that it got off after the cleaning or maybe it took that many cycles to get the lubricant dispersed everywhere.

But I did a light wipe down with some slip2000 degreaser and it ran 19 rnds and had a hammer follow on the 20th round way better than it had been doing. So I grabbed mag of unknown count steel just to see what happened. I got about 15 rnds off before I got a hammer follow, then it finished off the last 2-3 rounds. Loaded up a full 40 rnd mag of brass and it chugged through flawlessly.

So for reference my LWRC DI rifle has a NiB BCG and the lube I used in the last cleaning before I started having issues was the slip2000 EWL lube. Maybe that combination of the NiB bolt and the EWL lube just has too much bolt velocity? Maybe just run CLP? Or maybe just run it mostly dry? Or should I try a H3 buffer?

My H2 buffer weighs 130 grams.
Less gas, more buffer weight, run it dry/dirty, three options to try to slow everything down.
Also what barrel length and gas length? Got any videos of you shooting it I am interested what the current RPM was like.

Hmm might look at a different H2 then. Idk if 15 grams is enough to make a difference but maybe.

Barrel is 16” with a midlength gas system.

undeadchew I think my H2 might be underweight. A quick google says H2 should weigh 4.6 - 4.7 ounces. Which is about 130-133 grams. So mine being 116 grams seems pretty underweight.

Critter1371 Thanks for the video seems to be around 840-900 rounds per minute or 14-15 per second.

undeadchew is that on the high end? It seems like it would be since IIRC cyclic ROF for a M4A1 is like 800. You think going H3 would let me clean it without worrying about messing up the function?

Critter1371 Yes I think it is on the high end, for reference one of my rifles that runs well is clocked at 720-780 rpm

I can't say for certain but I think that an H3 is an easy place to start that may allow you to oil it and clean it.

undeadchew feels like it’s cylindrical weights. So just an out of spec H2 I guess.
