Greetings All!
I first want to thank Tim Hoffman for making his design free source so that others may use it to more closely
follow the intent of the Founding Fathers without inhibition. That's a very admirable and patriotic thing to do in my opinion. Thank you sir.
I had a Geissele Super 3 Gun trigger laying around after it got knocked out of the rotation by a two stage milspec that is relieved for the Super Safety. I discovered an image on the web that led me to a greater understanding of how the Super Safety engages the surfaces of the relieved triggers. My concern with the Geissele was the hollow channel at the back as opposed to the solid back wall featured on the milspec semi triggers. The modified milspec version I received with my Super Safety has a step down in the wall which I presumed was to enable the third mode.
I wrote to Tim who reassured me that the trigger should do just fine so long as the reliefs were made according to the PDF, but a milspec trigger would be a cheaper option. I followed both pieces of advice practicing on the cheaper milspec single stage first. I was eventually able to confirm this when I stumbled upon a picture of the Geissele SSA trigger relieved for the Super Safety which I did not fully understand at first. Both the right and left legs need relief. The right is much more drastic than the left which is somewhat subtle.
The modification is not difficult once understanding is gained of what the left leg(safety and middle position side) and right leg(single/two stage fire side) of the trigger do in relation to the Super Safety. I'd wager the Geissele are the easiest to modify due to the radius in the rear giving a natural template. The difficulty I found was in understanding the safe side and where to relieve. To figure this I pulled back on the trigger while pushing the SS from the middle position to the far right position. This left me with a bright spot on top of the safety leg. I lightly relieved from that spot to the rear in stages until I achieved the third function reliably. I have verified peoper function across all three positions and safe is quite solid.
I hope this assists anyone else wishing to make similar modifications. It's quite nice having the trigger I am used to and the Super Safety option present as well. The push button vs. the 90° or even 45° flip is a game changer for me.
