Printed my first 2a print, SL-9 and it looking absolutely awesome, study and all that I tried to fit one of my glock mags in... I could barely get it to fit, I was baffled.

Alot of people said its most likely because my printer isnt tuned properly.. spent a week tuning it making sure everything is perfect. I picked up a set of digital calipers as well.

Instead of doing full prints, I used orcaslicer to cut up just the mag well section of the SL-9 and print that to save filament and time. I also grabbed Hoffman's buffer tube test. even then the mags still didnt fit. I measured the mag with the calipers and got 33.69mm and the magwell according to orca is 33.47mm, this would explain why it wouldnt fit.

I got the bright idea to print out dannymeatball glock mag to test and got 32.89mm. This fits, snug enough mags dont just drop out.

So I guess my question here is do I just have crap Mags and need new ones?
Am I doing something wrong?
This a filament shrinkage problem?
I would assume if I scaled to 101-102% alot of the geometry would be off?

You could check some other files as well to see if those magwells are the same size

You might need to use some sandpaper to free up a lil space inside the magwell. It's likely from your printer tolerances. Try printing a torture test, like the toaster. That will give you an idea on what needs tuned.

If you upscale it then all your holes will be out of spec and you wound be able to hold in the trigger group or anything without modifications. Are you printing with PLA? It could have taken in some moisture and that could cause print issues as well.

I've personally found that the printed mags break easily if dropped as well. I've printed a lot of glock frames and never had that issue yet, maybe Sir Hoffman made the magwell for printed mags.

thank you for the reply, I'm a bit new to this still and this is where I'm confused, you can see the pics in the imgurl link, the calipers of an 3d mag vs model vs the mag stock mags.

side note yeah not a fan of the 3d printed mags I cant see them lasting, mostly just for a test print and measurements.

my printer is matching measurements on the model. I checked prusa slicer and orca... so dunno

....I'm using PLA+

edit: getting a night to sleep starting to think my mag is some cheap chinese knockoff or something?

WaffleStomper I'd measure my mags but by calipers battery is dead.. haha

Seeing that your slicer is showing those dimensions I'm guessing he based it around a specific mag. I have a few different brands but they all fit in my double stack Glocks. It shouldn't be an issue with pla+, that stuff usually prints super easy and perfectly. If I had to guess, he must have based the magwell off those printed ones. The dannymeatball ones are basically the best printed ones out there

The mag well spec is 1.316" length and 0.911" width. My Glock mags are around 1.305 x 0.905. Magpul is around 1.295 x 0.920 (due to bulging). KCI is 1.303 x 0.897. Some Glock mags can be a bit smaller.

For me some mags drop free and some are snug and have to be pulled out. Only way around this is to fit the mag well to a particular mag, and stick to that pair. Otherwise you can have some mags too loose, and feeding issue crop up. This is why you see AR-9 lowers with set screws to adjust mag fitment.

Thanks for the reply, never thought there would be such wide range of specs. I honestly thought I was doing something wrong. Think I'm just going to pick up some quality mags at this point.
